2016 New company headquarters as a combined office and production buildingThe circuit-board specialist was founded in 2012 and has since grown dynamically with innovative developments. The new company headquarters was to communicate this profile in a modern and original form language – functionality, a sense of realism and budget discipline were at the same time unconditional parameters. The result: Exactly seven months after the first spade of earth was turned, a relaxed client and his team of 13 employees were able to move in and commence trouble-free production.

2014 New company headquarters as administrative and logistics centreThe high-tech logistics specialist, originally founded as a local courier service in Chemnitz in 1993, was looking for a building concept which would not only meet all operational requirements, but also convey the visionary self-perception of the company. This vision was served with an exclusive, futuristically timeless “spaceship” as a hub for cross-docking and high-availability logistics. The €2.5 million investment, covering a total area of 8,500 m², conveys a clear message to customers: ECL is active day and night and with a modern fleet on their behalf.

2013 Audi Terminal DresdenAudi dealerships all over the world must adhere to common corporate architecture specifications – the so-called “Audi Terminal” concept: A metal facade comprising folded aluminium sheet with honeycomb perforations, an interior dominated by characteristic “Audi curves” and distinctive oblique glazing at the points of intersection with the facade. Within this framework, the dealership is free to plan and realise the building with appropriate individual details. There are many such terminals worldwide – but never before could a terminal project be handed over without construction defects …

2011 New company headquarters with showroom functionAfter 10 years in which the company had grown and flourished, it was time to move into a new production and office building of our own. The demands to be met: A distinctive but nevertheless authentic appearance, creation of an attractive working and production environment, demonstration of our capabilities to clients, and implementation of modern energy concepts. The outcome is a literally “prizewinning” ensemble which expresses the steelconcept values “versatile, reliable, efficient and aesthetic” in an intuitive manner.

continuous Steel beams and supports for the stabilisation or translocation of facades, gables and other building parts worthy of preservationHistorical buildings are essentially irreplaceable, but should at the same time allow use in accordance with present-day needs. Conversion often requires extensive removal of the internal structures. The reliable securing of a listed facade ensures investors the greatest possible freedom to build. Special steel constructions provide temporary or even permanent support – and complete parts of a building can even be shifted to a new location with the aid of a “transport cage”.

As the dimensions of the membrane fluctuate with the temperature, the corner supports could not be designed with fixed anchors. Instead, they rest on floating spheroidal bearings, with tensioning cables providing for lateral stability. The construction comprises a total of 988 individual components.

2012 Steel construction for the membrane facade of the Coca-Cola Beatbox installed in the forefront of the Olympic Games in LondonThe Coca-Cola Pavilion in the Olympic Park was conceived as a combination of architecture and musical instrument. Its facade comprised 230 ETFE membrane cushions, each 5 m² in size, which were interlocked for stability and in part served as interactive sound elements which could be “played” by visitors. The task was to design retaining and jointing elements for the aluminium-framed cushions. The extremely complex spatial geometry of the individual surfaces dictated a challenging trial assembly.

2015 Column-free production hall with a 43-metre spanFor the construction of a new production hall for non-woven fabrics, a width of 43 metres was to be spanned without intermediate columns. A classic trussed design would have required a girder height of approx. 2.20 metres and would have been very costly. The more economical alternative chosen was to use corrugated web beams, whose lighter weight and reduced height of just 1.10 metres translate into a significant cost advantage. The tapered ends, furthermore, permit optimum utilisation of the roof height over the whole width of the hall.

2014 Production hall alongside a lower existing buildingA new hall with a roof-mounted crane was to be erected as a direct extension of an existing production building. Due to the height difference, however, there was a risk of excessive snow accumulation in the dip of the roof, which would have required cost-intensive strengthening of the original building structure. Solution: The new hall roof extends approx. 5 metres over the old roof, and thereby eliminates the snow trap. A further challenge: The buildings stand right up to the site perimeter, which meant that all construction work had to be performed from the inside.

2014 Production hall meeting enhanced stability demandsAt an altitude of 625 metres in the Erzgebirge Mountains, the site of the new building is assigned to the highest German snow load zone 3. At the same time, a 32-tonne overhead crane system was required for the CNC machining of heavy precision workpieces. Taking into account the enhanced structural demands which result from the combination of these two load aspects, a supporting structure comprising vertical and horizontal trusses achieved a cost-optimised solution for the 25-metre span of the new hall (length 60 m, height 11.5 m).

2014 Column-free production hall with a 35-metre spanA production hall with floor space of approx. 2,500 m² was to be erected alongside an existing office building. The column-free span measured 35 metres and the location belonged to snow load zone 2. The solution was to design a supporting structure with 1.60‑metre corrugated web beams. A comparable trussed structure would have required a beam height of approx. 2.90 metres, adding not only to the weight, but also to the costs, e.g. for transportation.

2014 Renovation and expansion of a production complex without interrupting operationAn old brick building was to be demolished and replaced without interrupting production in the other buildings on the densely built site. Solution: A complete roof was erected over the existing building and an adjacent yard, covering a total area of 2,200 m². Given the problematical access, corrugated web beams were the obvious choice to span the required width of 36 metres without supports. After demolition of the old building, the roof structure was completed to produce an enclosed hall.

IMK engineering has been developing machines, special-purpose vehicles and gadgets since 1990. Within complex projects for clients of different industrial sectors working all over Europe, Asia and Africa they combine all steps from the idea to the fabrication of prototypes and pilot lots. By buying the FRAMO logo they´ve been consciously refering to the tradition and expertise of Saxon automotive industry since 2002.
Since June 2017 we´re working on the realisation of that project on Jagdschänkenstraße. The modern architecture is an attractive combination of transparency and discretion, both being two distinctive features of the company itself.
